Unidentified body recovered from harbour
The body of a young Asian male found floating near the Auckland Harbour Bridge at 10.50am on Saturday, January 12, remains unidentified. Police are appealing for information about who the young man - thought to be in his 20s - could be.
He is of thin build and was wearing an Adidas tee shirt with a large red, yellow and green logo [see attached] on the front. He was also wearing a single chain necklace which had a ring attached to it.
The young man was found by a group of wake boarders in a boat who retrieved the body and called the Coastguard. The tide was outgoing at the time so it's likely he had floated from the inner harbour area to where he was found. Sea conditions were very calm in the harbour on Saturday morning.
It's unlikely the man had been in the water for much more than a few hours.
No one fitting the description of the deceased has been reported missing to Police. Anyone who thinks they know who this young man is should contact the Auckland City CIB on 027 436 7561 or e-mail jessica.phuang@police.govt.nz
