Summerdaze – It’s Kids Stuff!
Summerdaze is amping up the action for local children as the school holidays continue.
The district’s month-long summer celebration has some very special events taking place for the junior set with kite making workshops and the new PJ Parties in the Libraries set to pull in the crowds.
Queenstown Lakes District Council arts and events facilitator Jan Maxwell said Summerdaze comes at a good time.
“School’s been out for a while, Christmas has been and gone and it’s about now kids start to get bored,” she said.
“The events on the Summerdaze calendar offer plenty of opportunities to try out new things in a safe and supervised environment and are also a bonus for parents who are running low on ideas for keeping everyone amused.”
Every year Summerdaze adds a new event to the line-up and this year’s offering, the PJ Party in the Library, is expressly aimed at children.
“Kids love the whole idea of being in a familiar place after hours and we’re expecting the parties to be very popular,” Mrs Maxwell said.
Guests at the PJ Parties will be expected to wear pyjamas and bring their sleeping bags and teddy bears for an evening of stories and songs from special guest Craig Smith. A night time library tour and hot chocolate will be on offer as well.
The parties, which take place in both the Queenstown and Wanaka libraries are free but bookings are essential and can be made by emailing events@summerdaze.co.nz.
Other events suitable for children include the Teddy Bears’ Picnics, Puzzling World Junior Challenge Wanaka and the Summa Sk8 Sesh.
