Police Dive Squad locate body of missing diver.
At about 4 p.m. on the 29th of December 2012 a group of five spent the day on the water at Matakatia Bay, Whangaparoa. During this time a male in his late 20's has failed to surface after diving.
An extensive search by Police, Westpac Rescue, family and emergencies services were unsuccessful.
At about 1:00 p.m. on the 30th of December 2012, the Police dive squad recovered the body of a male in the area; his identity is yet to be confirmed.
A police enquiry is underway and no further details will be released at this stage.
Police extend their thoughts and condolences to family and friends at this time.
