One dead after collison in central Hawkes Bay
Police are at the scene of a fatal crash between a car and a truck on SH2 in the central Hawke’s Bay.
The driver of a northbound Mitsubishi Chariot, a man in his 40’s, died in the collision with the southbound truck on the Takapau plains, at around 10am today. There were no passengers in the vehicle. The truck driver, also in his 40's, was badly shaken but otherwise unhurt. The car was extensively damaged.
Sergeant Ray Kirkby, of Hawkes Bay Police, said serious crash investigators were now at the scene of the crash, about 300m north of Snee Road. The Road is currently closed and diversions remain in place. Weather is overcast with heavy drizzle.
“This is a tragic reminder to all on the roads over the holidays to keep themselves safe and drive to the conditions, especially as greater numbers of people are travelling away on holiday or to family and friends for Christmas. We don’t want to see anyone else needlessly die on our roads this holiday season.”
