Long delays on Auckland’s Southern Motorway after truck crash
The NZ Transport Agency says northbound drivers on Auckland’s Southern Motorway (State Highway 1) can expect long delays
after a truck crashed and rolled near the East Tamaki Road northbound off ramp this afternoon.
Drivers heading north on SH1are being diverted on to the Southwestern Motorway (SH20) at Manukau. The northbound on
ramps to the Southern Motorway at Redoubt Road, Te Irirangi Drive and East Tamaki Road are closed.
All southbound lanes on the Southern motorway are open, but congestion is building up just past the Highbrook
interchange as drivers slow as they pass the crash scene.
“For their own safety, we ask drivers not to slow down to avoid any delays southbound on the Southern Motorway during
the afternoon peak. There is a risk of bumper to bumper crashes if people become distracted as they pass the crash
scene,” says the NZTA’s acting State Highways manager for Auckland and Northland, Steve Mutton.
