Serious Assaults and Attempted Abduction
Invercargill Police were kept busy over the weekend investigating 2 Serious Assaults and an Attempted Abduction of a
17year old female.
At approximately 12.20am on the morning of Sunday 2 December Invercargill Police attended an incident on Nelson Street
were a male aged 50yrs is alleged to have assaulted 4 persons (2 males and 2 females) outside an address with a weapon.
A number of the victims were treated at the Southland Hospital with moderate to serious injuries.
All of the victims have since been discharged from the Southland Hospital.
A team of detectives from the Invercargill Criminal Investigation Unit have spent the day speaking to a number of
witnesses and victims and completing a scene examination.
A 50 year old man was arrested at the scene at the time of the incident and will face a raft of Serious Assault related
charges when he appears in the Invercargill District Court on Monday the 3 December.
Police would like to speak to any members of the public who may have been in the area at the time of the incident and
who may be able to provide some assistance to contact the Invercargill Police.
At approximately 0830am on Sunday 2 December Police were called to a reported stabbing at an Earn Street address.
A 36 year old male victim was transported to the Southland Hospital by ambulance and treated for moderate head injuries
and was later discharged.
As scene examination was carried out by Police Investigators today and a number of witnesses along with the victim were
spoken too.
A 24yr old man who is known to the victim has been arrested and will appear in the Invercargill District Court tomorrow
on Assault related charges with more serious charges possible following further inquiries.
At approximately 09.45-10.00 am on Sunday the 2 December a 17yr old girl was walking along George Street heading towards
Windsor Street.
As she got to the corner of Wilton and George a male has got out of a white van which was parked facing north on Wilton
Street near the intersection with George Street.
The male is alleged to have tried to get the girl into the van but she has managed to run off towards Windsor Street.
The male is described as being possibly in his 50-60's with grey/silver hair.
The van is described as being white with tinted windows.
The young female has yet to be properly interviewed by police and was understandably very shaken by the ordeal.
This is the latest of a number of reported incidents which have involved an elderly male in a white van approaching
young children over the past month.
Clearly the Invercargill Police would like to identify who this male is and are asking the public who may have been in
the area around the time of this incident and seen the white van or the male approach this young female to urgently
contact the Invercargill Police.
If you see a suspicious vehicle in particular a white van with an elderly male driving it in your area please take the
registration number and ring the police at the time.
