Water Plant Repairs – Please Conserve Water
Dunedin (Monday, 26 November 2012) – The DCC’s Mount Grand Water Treatment Plant is scheduled to be shut down this
Wednesday 28 and Thursday 29 November 2012.
To ensure there is enough water to cover the period of the Mount Grand Treatment Plant shutdown, with a margin of safety
to cover demand including fire fighting requirements, the DCC asks the public to reduce water usage where possible, such
as putting off watering gardens or washing cars until the following weekend.
To maintain continuity of supply to the city during the shutdown, as much demand as possible will be transferred from
the Mount Grand Water Treatment Plant to the Southern Water Treatment Plant. While a significant portion of the city
will be supplied from the Southern plant, many of the hill suburbs will rely on the stored water in the Mount Grand
treated water reservoirs.
Gerard McCombie, DCC Water Production Manager, says, “Our planning indicates that there will be sufficient stored water
but it is useful if domestic consumers conserve water to minimise the draw down in the reservoirs.”
The shutdown is to enable repairs to be carried out on a concrete structure in the Mount Grand Water Treatment Plant.
