Local board launches T-ball World Championships 2013
Upper Harbour Local Board joined the Black Sox to launch the T-Ball World Championships 2013 at Ridgeview School in Paremoremo this week.
The championships, which will run alongside the ISF World Softball Championships in March 2013, provide an exciting opportunity for primary school children throughout Auckland to get involved and be part of an international event, play t-ball and have fun through sport.
The championships will see 10 primary school teams compete for the title, representing one of the countries competing at the ISF World Softball Championships 2013.
The programme has been fully funded by eight Auckland local boards, and a primary school from each partner local board area will take part in the competition.
The programme includes team t-shirts, transport to the competition, and the opportunity to take part in the opening and closing ceremonies of the men’s competition.
The two primary school teams that make the final in this junior competition will play the final on the world stage as the curtain raiser for the World Softball Championship 2013 final on 13 March 2013.
Upper Harbour Local Board Chair Margaret Miles says the programme is a fantastic opportunity for young people to get involved in an international sporting event.
“The local board is proud to partner with Softball 2013 to get Auckland schools involved with the world softball champs,” she says.
“The international tournament will bring a lot of people to Upper Harbour next year, and we want to make this an event for locals as well as the international sporting community.”
The following local boards are involved in the T-ball World Championships:
Henderson-Massey Local Board
Hibiscus and Bays Local Board
Howick Local Board
Kaipatiki Local Board
Māngere-Ōtāhuhu Local Board
Ōtara-Papatoetoe Local Board
Rodney Local Board
Upper Harbour Local Board.
Participating primary schools will be selected by Softball 2013, which is co-ordinating the tournament.
