Full description:
Wairarapa Search and rescue are currently searching for a 29 year old Chilean tourist who has become disoriented in the vicinity of Mount Holdsworth in the Tararua Forest Park near Masterton.
He had gone to Mt Holdsworth for a day hike and lost the track on his return journey to Holdsworth Lodge
He alerted authorities to his predicament by way of a cell phone. He is not equipped for an overnight stay in the forest park.
A helicopter search could not reach the area where he is believed to be due to low cloud.
Five volunteer search teams have been deployed to the area overnight.
Weather conditions are mild but the missing tourist is believed to be in the sub alpine zone and below the bush edge.
It is hoped that cloud conditions will improve in the morning.
