Media Release From The Gore Police
At approximately 4.00pm on Wednesday the 21st November 2012 Emergency Services were called to a head on collision on State Highway 1 between Gore and Mataura.
A Toyota Landcruiser traveling north with two male occupants aged 39 years and 19 years from the Gore area collided with a Nissan Truck and empty tanker unit that was traveling south.
The tanker unit had two occupants aged 46 years and 29 years also from the Gore area.
Upon impact the Toyota Landcruiser traveled down the tanker unit before spinning 180 degrees coming to rest a further 25 meters on its side.
The tanker unit traveled approximately 100 meters stopping in the roadside vegetation across the northbound lane.
Occupants of the Landcruiser were treated at the scene for minor injuries by the two ambulances in attendance.
A 56 year old motorcyclist following immediately behind the truck and tank unit was also lucky having observed a safe following distance which enabled him to escape involvement.
State Highway 1 was closed for approximately 2 hours with diversions put in place.
Police are investigating all factors, however can confirm alcohol was not involved.
The incident is a timely reminder of the vigilance required when driving with those involved being extremely lucky not to have sustained serious injury.
