Council Of Elders Seeks New Members
For Immediate Release

Hamilton’s Council of Elders holds its annual general meeting on Friday, December 7 and is now seeking nominations for new members.

The Council of Elders comprises 15 Hamiltonians aged 60 and over, each elected for a threeyear term.

This year two members are standing down and nominations for new members are now being sought.

The Council of Elders meets monthly and works alongside the Mayor, Councillors and Council staff in an advisory capacity.

Chairman Dr Michael Hills says the group’s collective city history totals almost 600 years and members help provide continuity for residents.

“We have a knowledge of where Hamilton has come from. But at the same time we take a lot of interest in where the city is going.”

Nominations close on Friday, November 23 and elections will take place at the AGM which will be opened by Her Worship the Mayor Julie Hardaker.

The AGM is on Friday, December 7 at the Hamilton City Council Reception Lounge, with refreshments served from 10am. All members of the public are welcome to attend.
