Earnslaw Park Kiosk
Queenstown Lakes District Council is looking for a big idea to fill a small space in a prime position on Queenstown’s lakefront.
The Council is seeking proposals from people interested in renting a 2.6m² space in the new Earnslaw Park toilet block. The area has been set aside specially to be used as a business or service kiosk.
QLDC community services manager Paul Wilson says the space could be ideal for a number of ventures.
“The kiosk could be set up as a visitor information or ticketing centre or perhaps even a news stand, a florist or a fruit stall,” he said. ”No doubt there are other uses we haven’t even thought of. It’s a great site with lots of potential.”
Mr Wilson said all proposals would be considered in terms of how they increased the amenity of Earnslaw Park, added to the convenience of users of the park and how well they fitted in with the building’s operation as a public toilet facility.
The Council previously rejected a proposed café on the park but elected to seek proposals for the small kiosk space. The kiosk utilises spare space in the proposed public toilets and does not alter the foot print of the building.
If the Council finds a proposal it likes, it will then consult with the public prior to granting a lease.
