Police have concerns for the safety of a male who was seen to jump into the water by the eastern side of Auckland's Princes Wharf at around 5 am this morning.
Members of the public saw the male remove his shoes and shirt before jumping into the water and he was last seen swimming under the wharf.
Police staff and the Police Maritime Unit searched the area but were unable to locate him.
The Police National Dive Squad is being called in to assist with the search.
The male was described as being Caucasian, approximately 186 cm tall, medium build, with frizzy hair that was 15 - 20 cm long.
Anyone with information that could assist the Police in identifying the male or confirming that he is safe, are asked to urgently contact the Auckland Police Maritime unit on 302 6400.
