National award for Roadsafe Hawke’s Bay Manager
The efforts of Roadsafe Hawke’s Bay towards injury prevention on our roads will receive national recognition tomorrow (Thursday 8 November).
Roadsafe Hawke’s Bay Regional Manager Linda Anderson is being presented with the Injury Prevention Network Aotearoa NZ (IPNANZ) Te Manaia Award in Wellington for her commitment and contribution to injury prevention.
The award specifically recognises the work Mrs Anderson has done setting up the Hawke’s Bay Youth Alcohol Expo and the development of the youth alcohol education resource “Just Another Saturday Night”, which is a DVD telling the true story of an ordinary night when four young Hawke’s Bay men go out socialising and how the night ended with two of them dead and two critically injured.
Linda Anderson has also been involved in the development of an Injury Prevention Qualification, in conjunction with the Open Polytechnic and IPNANZ.
The award recognises outstanding contribution to injury prevention and will be presented by Senior Government Whip Michael Woodhouse and IPNANZ Director Joyce Ann Reihania at ACC’s national office in Wellington.
Linda Anderson says the goal of the Hawke’s Bay Youth Alcohol Expo and the youth alcohol education resource is to change the behaviour and attitude of drivers and to demonstrate safe driving practises.
“There has been a considerable reduction in alcohol related crashes and we have provided education sessions to a significant number of people with a focus on youth,” says Mrs Anderson.
She says the work undertaken in Hawke’s Bay is supported by a number of key road safety stakeholders whose contribution has added to the reduction in road trauma for the region.
“It is an honour to receive this award and I would like to acknowledge my road safety partners and the commitment they demonstrate.”
