Awards for Hastings Young Achievers
The achievements of 22 young Hastings people will be recognised at an awards ceremony this Wednesday.
Hastings Heretaunga Lions Club has joined with Hastings District Council in presenting the Hastings Young Achievers awards.
Mayor Lawrence Yule says “The students who will be honoured at this awards ceremony are all high achievers, and each one of them has much to offer their schools, families and the wider community”.
“This event is the culmination of months of hard work by the Lions Club and it is gratifying that we can recognise these young, inspirational people who have demonstrated exceptional leadership amongst their peers,” Lawrence Yule says.
Hastings Heretaunga Lions Club member and Young Achievers Committee chair, David Harington, says youth of today are often portrayed negatively which, in the case of the majority, is simply not true.
“The nominated students are a classic example of what can be achieved and we are confident that they will become leaders in their chosen field, not only scholastically but in all walks of life."
The students will be presented with a certificate noting their achievements while family and friends will get a chance to view a series of portraits of the students in action taken by photographer Terry Winn.
Following the ceremony, the portraits will be on display at Hastings i-Site and in the Hastings Library.
