Eighth annual Seniors Week kicks off on Monday 24 September
UPPER HUTT, Wellington NZ, 14 SEPT 2012—Seniors in Upper Hutt are invited to take part in numerous free events hosted at Upper Hutt City Council’s community facilities during the week 24 – 30 September. A wide range of events have been planned to take place at Upper Hutt Central Library, H2O Xtream and Expressions Arts and Entertainment Centre. Events will include a community quiz, Safety Expo, a Zumba class, free swimming, an interactive quilting presentation, and for the third year, the ever-popular Antiques Roadshow.
Upper Hutt Seniors Week is in its eighth year. Originally an initiative to celebrate the International Day of the Older Person, Council’s Community Services department has expanded the variety of events and the festivities now last a week. Andrea Curtis, Director of Community Services says, “Council is committed to providing events for senior citizens in acknowledgement of their significant contribution to our community. We hope those over 60 take the opportunity to attend the wide variety of interesting activities on offer at this year’s event. Best of all, it’s all free! ”
Monday 24 September Upper Hutt City Library, 10.00 am – 12.00 pm, Safety Expo: Upper Hutt City Council’s Community Development team is bringing together a range of experts to provide helpful information about keeping safe at home and when you’re out and about.
Upper Hutt Central Library, 2.00 pm, The Great Kiwi Quiz, with quizmaster, Mayor Wayne Guppy. Individuals and teams most welcome!
Tuesday 25 September H2O Xtream Swimming Pool: Free entry all day for over 60’s plus special deals at Waves Café.
Upper Hutt Central Library, 10.00 am – 12.00 pm, Health and Fitness Expo: Kick the day off with a fun Zumba class at 10.00 am and meet a range of experts presenting ways to keep active and healthy in Upper Hutt!
Wednesday 26 September Expressions Arts & Entertainment Centre, 10.30 am, Quilting Over The Ages: Enjoy a visual presentation and discussion, presented by local textile artist Katherine Morrison and followed by light refreshments.
Upper Hutt Central Library, from 12.00 pm, Watch members of the Upper Hutt Art Society create art in the Rotary Lounge. Bring along your work-in-progress. Canvas and paints will be provided so you can have a go!
Thursday 27 September Upper Hutt Central Library, 2.00 pm, Jade Eru will be performing old favourites in the Rotary Lounge. UH Ukes will perform a free concert in the evening at 6.00 pm.
Friday 28 September Upper Hutt City Library 11.00 am – 4.00 pm Peter Wedde (from TVNZ’s Auction House) returns with ANTIQUES ROADSHOW! Hunt out your antiques or precious things and bring it along for appraisal. (One item per person please, bookings for appraisals essential, please contact the Library for more information.)
