Press Release: Sustainable Coastlines
Join Sustainable Coastlines this Saturday to celebrate Conservation Week and International Coastal Clean-up Day by rolling up your sleeves and helping us clean up the wild, west coast.
Volunteer troops will be dotted along the west coast, with event bases at Piha, Anawhata, Bethells Beach, Maori Bay, Muriwai (South) and Muriwai (Rimmer Road) from 11am to 3pm on Saturday 15 September.
See map of all locations here and look for our big blue flags. We’ll have sacks and gloves for all, so just turn up and you’ll be ready to go.
International Coastal Clean-up Day is a global event where millions of coast lovers around the world head down to the beach to help keep their coastlines beautiful.
Conservation Week is a national festival running from the 9th til the 16th of September celebrating and raising awareness around Aotearoa’s fragile natural beauty.
More about Sustainable Coastlines:
Sustainable Coastlines is a young New Zealand charity run by four hard-working full time staff and a network of passionate volunteers. We love our coasts and we work with our sleeves rolled up to keep them beautiful. We coordinate and support largescale coastal clean-up events, educational programs, public awareness campaigns, riparian planting activities and other projects aimed at protecting and sustaining our coastlines. Through these projects we motivate volunteers and communities around Aotearoa / New Zealand and the Pacific to look after the coastlines we all love.
Since 2008, we have motivated 22,097 people to remove 835,516 litres of rubbish (over 117+ tonnes) from the coast and delivered educational presentations to over 50,000 school students with exceptional results.
