Motorway Crash : Witness sought by Police
Early this morning (08.09.2012) at around 1:30am a vehicle travelling city-bound on Auckland’s Northern motorway crashed
after losing control near the Constellation Drive on-ramp.
Emergency Services were called to the scene after the VW Golf vehicle was seen to swerve left and right before
colliding with an armco railing.
The collision closed the city-bound lanes for approximately 4 hours while the scene was investigated by the Serious
Crash Unit.
9 people, all teenagers and thought to live on the North Shore area, were in the vehicle at the time, including one male
seated in the car’s boot.
The male was taken to Auckland hospital with potentially serious injuries however this was later downgraded to minor.
The female driver and a front seat passenger were also taken to hospital for minor injury.
It is thought the occupants had been attending a party on the Shore before travelling towards the city when the accident
occurred.
Senior Constable Karl BEVIN believes all the occupants were extremely fortunate not to have suffered more serious
injuries.
Police are continuing their enquiries and are keen to speak with the driver of a white taxi with a blue roof light that
paused momentarily at the scene when the crash occurred.
Senior Constable BEVIN believes the taxi driver witnessed the driver’s behaviour and the subsequent crash, and believes
the taxi driver is a very integral witness in this matter.
He seeks the driver to come forward and speak to Police to assist them in their enquiries.
