Emergency services including Police Serious Crash Unit are on the the scene.
One person has suffered critical injuries.
Diversions are in place at Taupiri Bridge to the north and the Taupiri turn off through Orini to the South.
Traffic is very heavy in the area and motorists are asked to avoid it until further notice.
