Title: Serious Crash North of Auckland
A serious crash on State Highway One on Wednesday 22 August 2012 has resulted in Police appealing to the driver of the second vehicle involved to make himself known to them.
Police say that about 6.15pm a Toyota Hilux 4x4 vehicle was travelling in the fast lane, northbound on the Northern Motorway on State Highway One and was at a point close to the Bawden Road overbridge.
A second vehicle described as a dark coloured people mover has approached the Toyota from the rear. After an overtaking manoeuvre this vehicle has then swerved into the path of the Toyota causing its driver to take evasive action to avoid a collision. The Toyota has lost control and has rolled numerous times. It has hit the median barriers and finally come to rest in the southbound lanes.
The three occupants of the Toyota suffered serious injuries.
The 44 year old male driver is in Auckland Hospital. His son and daughter who are both less than 12 years of age have since been discharged.
Police describe the actions of the driver of the people mover as irresponsible and reckless. They urge the driver to make himself known to them.
Police say this incident happened at a time of the day when commuter traffic on the Northern Motorway was heavy. Numerous drivers would have seen the actions of the second vehicle prior to or at the time the Toyota crashed.
Anyone who witnessed the crash or has any information that will assist the Waitematä Serious Crash Unit in their investigations is urged to call Constable Paul Hayward on 09 481 0345.
