Shots fired at police building in Whangārei
Police are investigating shots that were fired on the Otangarei Neighbourhood Policing Team base in Whangārei early this morning.
About 4.30am Police received reports that four shots had been fired at the building in Matai Street, Otangarei.
No-one was in the building at the time. However, the building received damage to its walls and windows.
Relieving Whangārei/Kaipara Area Commander Inspector Tracy Phillips says this incident is very concerning for police and could have led to a tragic outcome for police and the community.
"The Neighbourhood Policing Team is working well with the Otangarei community and we are supporting them in every way we can.
We will not tolerate this sort of action and will not be intimidated by anyone who chooses to do this."
Police are conducting a scene examination this morning and are appealing for any information regarding the incident.
