Attempted Kidnapping - Four Arrested
Rodney Police spent a dramatic few hours yesterday in pursuit of four offenders who attempted to kidnap a male victim from his home in rural Matakana.
Police say that about 10.05am on Tuesday 21 August 2012 two men and two women arrived at an address in Smith Road Matakana. They were occupants of a black BMW motor vehicle. The four offenders were known associates of the victim. It’s alleged two of the offenders assaulted the victim. It’s further alleged that a firearm was involved.
The victim has managed to escape his assailants and a short time later Police were alerted to the incident. Acting on information received police went to a Mahurangi address and located the four alleged offenders and the BMW.
Two males aged 37, and 22 years have been arrested and charged with attempted kidnapping and commission of a crime with a firearm. Two females aged 21 and 19 years were also arrested on similar charges. The four offenders are all appearing in the North Shore District Court today.
Police from throughout Rodney collectively assisted in the arrests. General duties, traffic and CIB staff from Orewa, Wellsford, Warkworth, and Mangawhai were all involved. The air support helicopter Eagle and a dog unit were also deployed. All police units were stood down soon after 1.00pm.
Police enquiries are continuing. Anyone in the Matakana and Mahurangi areas who has knowledge of the movements of a black BMW motor vehicle early yesterday morning is urged to contact Detective Senior Sergeant Brett Batty at Rodney CIB on 09 426 5871 or call Crime Stoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
