Makara roads closed by flooding
The Makara Beach settlement, west of Wellington, is likely to be cut off to general traffic overnight due to flooding following today’s heavy rain.
Makara Beach Road is closed – and so is the Takarau Gorge Road between Makara Beach and Johnsonville.
Sections of both roads are under water and will remain closed until 7am tomorrow (Friday) when engineers can assess whether the flooding has caused damage.
Road closure signs have been erected at the Karori end of Makara Road and the Ohariu Valley end of Takarau Gorge Road.
