Local Government Transforming Services

LGOL MEDIA RELEASE Wednesday 6 June 2012

Local Government Transforming Services

Improved use of technology in local government took another step forward today as Local Government Online (LGOL) Chief Executive Cassandra Crowley announced the Steering Committee for its Service Transformation through Technology (STTT) programme.

Ms Crowley says the team balances governance, management and technical skills with council and key sector organisation representation.

“I am confident this group will advance the gains this project has already made. Technology is about empowering and enabling organisations. This is an exciting project for the sector and aims to deliver real benefits to councils and their communities.”

The steering committee members are: Julian Carver Open data proponent, currently acting Chief Information Officer for the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Agency

The STTT project shows council CEO's, Councillors and IT experts have already begun working together to assess how their organisations can use technology to improve their business functions. The STTT project is working closely with existing regional initiatives in both the North and South Island, as well as the central government whole of government work programme.

Waitaki District Council Chief Executive and SOLGM Executive Member Michael Ross, who is on the project team, says “it is great to see such a diverse range of representatives leading the project.”

This project is an example of innovation and drive from within the sector to use technology to serve communities better. It has input from central government officials and shows how the sector is driving initiatives to bring increasing efficiency, effectiveness and responsiveness to technological advances to the sector.
