Upper Harbour Local Board Elects New Chair
The Upper Harbour Local Board elected Margaret Miles as its new chairperson at its public meeting on Tuesday 24 April.
Mrs Miles, who previously served as the board’s deputy chairperson, will fill the leadership role until the end of the
term in October 2013.
Former chairperson Brian Neeson honoured an agreement made at the beginning of the board’s term in November 2010, that
the chairperson and deputy chairperson would switch roles half way through. Mr Neeson is now the deputy chairperson.
“I wish to thank Brian Neeson for his dedication as the first chairman of the Upper Harbour Local Board and for seeing
us through the early challenges of the new Auckland Council model,” says Mrs Miles.
“As the new chair of the Upper Harbour Local Board I look forward to the next 18 months.
“There will still be challenges ahead, but I am determined that Upper Harbour’s communities will continue to be well
served for the rest of the term, and I am very privileged to be leading the voice for our area.
“The members of the Board have a wealth of community experience and skills and we are all very keen to make a difference
for our residents.”
The change shows the board’s dedication to represent all of its communities by giving members from both sides of the
Upper Harbour Bridge, which stretches from Hobsonville to Greenhithe, the opportunity to be in leadership roles.
The local board area is made up of suburbs from both the former North Shore City and Waitakere City councils.
