Bigger pipes for Te Hapara will prevent ponding
Te Hapara residents may have seen the last of the flooding and ponding they experienced on their properties this week after heavy rain. An upgrade of the stormwater pipes in the area is now underway. “A survey of the area has shown that there is an issue with stormwater not draining as quickly as it should in some streets, says stormwater manager Joss Ruifrok. “This is caused by either undersized or a lack of pipes in some areas.”
Work has begun in Noel Bull Avenue and will continue into Mill Road and Cook Street over the next couple of weeks.
Road users and pedestrians will notice some disruption. Traffic may be restricted to one lane at times and there will be some noise during the day. There may be short periods when residents have restricted access to their properties. Gisborne District Council’s contractor will notify affected residents before this happens. If people can take an alternative route and avoid the area during construction that would be appreciated.
The upgrades are likely be completed by the end of May depending on the weather.
Council thanks road users and residents for there patience and cooperation while this work is underway.
