Title: Wairarapa Man Facing Charges After Leaving Baby Outside Pub
A 39 year old man will appear in the Masterton District Court on Thursday after Police found his one year old baby alone in a vehicle outside the Kuripuni Tavern on Saturday night.
Detective Sergeant Tony Heathcote of the Wairarapa CIB says Police were called to the licensed premises shortly after 11pm on Saturday night.
“Upon arrival, we found the defendant’s one year old daughter in her car seat, lightly clad, in a car outside the Kuripuni Tavern. Two children, aged 10 and 11 years, who were also supposed to be in this man’s care, were found by Police alone at a Masterton address.”
Detective Sergeant Heathcote says, “Every child deserves the right to be looked after and cared for, not neglected and left in a vehicle outside a pub on a Saturday night. We have notified the appropriate agencies who will ensure that the ongoing welfare needs of these three children are met.”
The 39 year old faces charges including driving with excess breath alcohol and the wilful neglect of the three children.
Detective Sergeant Heathcote says where Police become aware of cases of child abuse, action will be taken immediately. To report cases of neglect or abuse, please contact Wairarapa Police on (06) 3700 300 or phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
