Youth scholarships closing soon
Applications for Manurewa Local Board’s Youth Leadership Scholarships 2012 close on 31 March.
There is a total of $10,000 available for scholarships this year, with a maximum of $2,000 awarded to any one applicant.
Manurewa Local Board Chair Daniel Newman says, “The board set up the fund in 2011 to support young people to remain in school and move on to further education and training.
“Through the fund, we also support our youth to attend conferences or events that will develop their leadership potential.
“Doing this is part of our aim of developing strong communities that our young people actively engage with.”
The objectives of the scholarship fund are to:
• assist young people to achieve their potential through tertiary education or training, and through participation in conferences and events both in New Zealand and overseas.
• invest in and build future leaders in the community.
• to provide coaching, mentoring and mutually beneficial learning and development for young people through civic participation.
The scholarship funds can assist year 12 or year 13 students with course costs towards their first year of study at a tertiary or training institution. Grants can also be used to assist young people with travel and other related costs associated with conferences and events that are consistent with the purpose of the scholarship programme. Applicants need to live inside Manurewa Local Board boundaries.
How to apply
Students can apply by emailing trina.bishop@aucklandcouncil.govt.nz or phoning (09) 261 8861.
