Hamilton Police investigating the suspicious death of a man overnight carried out a series of searches in the east of the City today, looking for persons of interest.
Detective Senior Sergeant Karl Thornton of the Hamilton CIB said the searches resulted from the discovery of a critically injured 42-year-old man at a Chamberlain Pl property by ambulance staff about 11.40pm.
"The injured man was taken to Waikato Hospital but was unable to be revived.
"Police have been interviewing a number of witnesses today however we identified other people we would still like to speak to and as a result of this officers went to a number of addresses in the east of the City today."
Mr Thornton said the Waikato Armed Offenders Squad assisted with the clearing of two properties and distraction devices were used at one but no shots were fired.
"At this point it is too early to say how the man suffered his injuries and it is hoped a post-mortem being currently performed in Auckland will give us some clarity on this matter.
"While we are awaiting the results of the post-mortem I can confirm we are treating the matter as suspicious."
