Families Win Victory Over Porn Parade
Family First NZ is stoked that the proposed Boobs on Bikes parade scheduled to happen in the centre of Auckland city on
the same day that families converge on the area for the rugby world cup game against France has been canned.
“Families are the real winners, but so too is the image of New Zealand which is being beamed to the world because of the
rugby world cup,” says Bob McCoskrie, National Director of Family First NZ.
“Families coming to the Auckland city center on that day no longer have to worry about being confronted by a tacky
offensive porn parade.”
“What is still concerning is that the Council are legally unable to prevent future parades like this happening – even
during the Santa parade. Family First will continue to plead with politicians to amend the law so that Councils do have
the clout to act in the best interests of families and prevent these parades happening in their area.”
“Families and the community work hard to protect children from pornography - including internet filters on their
computers, adult magazines wrapped in plastic with warning signs in bookstores, and regulations around broadcasting and
advertising standards of pornographic material, especially around children.”
“We cannot stop the hard core pornography industry promoting their product to a targeted private audience despite its
harmful effects on women, children, and families. But for those who stand for decency, and who seek to protect families
and children, a public display when young children and families could be present causes widespread offence,” says Mr
McCoskrie.
“The fact that the hard-core porn industry can give ‘two-fingered waves’ to local councils and the police proves that
the protection of children and families is not being given priority.”
“Children and families deserve the protection of the state from offensive and sexualised behaviour promulgated by the
porn industry.”
