Cyber Safety For Teens
The Hurunui Youth Programme will be running seminars this month alerting teens and their parents to the dangers of cyber
bulling.
Youth Co-ordinator, Samantha Mould, says with technology becoming more of a feature in young people’s lives, it is
important they know how to keep themselves safe when using it.
“In my role I have seen more and more instances of cyber-bulling especially on social media networks like Facebook, and
it is important we do what we can to ensure our youths understand how to use this technology in safe way and be aware of
some of the dangers.”
She says the seminars will provide an opportunity for young people and their families and the community at large to
learn more about cyber bulling in today’s technological world.
They will be run over two nights: Tuesday October 4th at the Culverden Community Room and Wednesday October 5th at the
Community Room in Cheviot.
Run by an organisation known as GAZUMP, the seminars are open to everyone. Key speakers talk from personal experience
about cyber bullying and its impact on their family and friends and provide tips and tools to keep young people and
their families safe.
