Crash North of Oamaru: Update
A car and four-wheel drive utility towing a trailer were involved in a head-on crash on State Highway One about 5km north of Oamaru at about 1pm today.
The three people involved were initially taken to Oamaru Hospital for assessment.
The 40-year-old driver of the utility vehicle has been assessed and discharged from hospital with cuts and abrasions.
The driver of the car, an 82-year-old woman, has sustained fracture injuries and has been taken to Dunedin Hospital by ambulance.
The passenger in the car, an 83-year-old man, has sustained multiple injuries and has been flown by helicopter to Dunedin Hospital.
Police and emergency services attended the crash and a crash investigator has been called in to examine the scene.
State Highway One has been closed and a five-minute detour is likely to be in place for the rest of the afternoon.
Oamaru Police would be interested to hear from anyone who might have observed the crash.
