Huge Support For Palmerston North Volunteers
Locals have got behind their volunteers with 43 nominations received for the TrustPower Palmerston North Community
Awards.
Nominations for the Community Awards closed on Friday 29 July. The TrustPower Palmerston North Community Awards, which
recognise and reward volunteers for the outstanding contribution they make to the local community, are run in
conjunction with the Palmerston North City Council.
TrustPower Community Relations Representative Suzi Luff says she is excited about celebrating the many generous and hard
working community groups through this year's TrustPower Community Awards.
"The Community Awards is all about recognising the hard work of these groups who are the community's unsung champions.
They work tirelessly and give so much for the benefit of those who live in Palmerston North. It's awesome that through
the TrustPower Community Awards we will celebrate and honour these volunteers and their hard work. And a big 'thanks'
must go to the people who nominated these wonderful groups," says Miss Luff.
The Awards cover five categories; Heritage and Environment, Health and Wellbeing, Arts and Culture, Sport and Leisure,
and Educational and Child/Youth Development. The category winners receive $500 and runners-up receive $250. The Supreme
Winner will take home $1,500, a trophy, framed certificate and an all-expenses paid trip to the TrustPower National
Community Awards.
The 2011 TrustPower National Community Awards will be held in the Ashburton district in March 2012.
The nominations for the TrustPower Palmerston North Community Awards are currently being prepared for judging. The
TrustPower Palmerston North Community Awards will be announced and presented at a function on Tuesday 20 September, to
which all nominated organisations and nominators will be invited.
