Five arrested over Hamilton assault
Five people will appear in the Hamilton Youth Court to face charges of Grevious Bodily Harm, Assault with a Weapon, Threatening to Kill and Theft after an incident at an inner city apartment during the early hours of Saturday morning, the 13th August 2011.
The adult victim was present at the address when the offenders turned on him and then held captive for over an hour. During this time he was repeatedly beaten, had his clothing removed, some of which was placed in his mouth as a gag. He was abused and degraded including having parts of his hair cut before he managed to make his escape.
Investigators were concerned that four of the five involved were female, including one 13 and one 14 year old. This was a seriously violent incident with these young girls being involved in an offender role.
The victim suffered a fractured cheek, severe bruising and is recovering at home, after discharge from hospital.
Recent legislation changes now make it possible for Police to lay charges when youths are involved in such crimes.
