Whakatane Flooding
Police and Emergency services are currently dealing with severe flooding in Whakatane town centre as a result of heavy rain fall.
The following Roads are effected and diversions in place:
Peace St, McAlister St, McGarvey Rd and Apanui Road.
There are further reports of flooding near the Hikurangi and Pouwhare intersection near the river walk.
Police are asking for motorists to avoid the area if possible, and if driving in the area to slow their speed right down.
Heavy rain is continuing and the flooding is expected to continue to cause difficulties for a considerable time yet.
