Be part of the plan
Aucklanders from Wellsford to Waiuku are being encouraged to work with their local boards to ensure their communities prosper as part of the new Auckland.
Alongside yesterday’s launch of the Auckland Plan discussion document Auckland Unleashed, 21 Local Board Plans will seek to create Auckland’s most liveable communities – complementing “the world’s most liveable city” vision.
Transport, community, urban, rural, heritage, development, residential and business – these are some of the diverse yet complementary themes to be explored during the next six weeks as part of the local board planning process.
Local board members will seek to attract Aucklanders’ attention and involve them in shaping community-based plans as the first part of an ongoing dialogue.
Local boards are unique in the New Zealand local government landscape, an initiative of the Auckland reforms which took effect last November. Enshrined in law, Auckland’s 21 local boards play a key role in the governance of Auckland Council by making decisions on local matters, providing local leadership and offering important local input into region-wide strategies and plans.
Residents are invited to visit www.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/haveyoursay to check out the various opportunities to influence local and region-wide plans currently under development.
