St John supporting Urban Search and Rescue

St John are continuing to respond to calls and are supporting the Urban Search and Rescue teams in Christchurch. We are also continuing to transport patients.

Over the last 24 hours we have sent a total of 161 St John frontline medical staff to Christchurch to assist with operations there:

• Ninety from Auckland, Hauraki & Northland
Twenty-two from the central and lower North Island
Nineteen from Tasman and Marlborough
Thirty from the lower South Island

Forty ambulances are operational in Christchurch and St John have deployed:

• Twenty aircraft
Over twelve mass casualty incident vehicles
Ten support vehicles including four wheel drives and trailers

Wellington Free Ambulance has also deployed eighteen staff and eight rescue vehicles.
