Nelson police are able to release the name of the 35 year old Tahunanui man who died north of the city at about 3pm on Christmas Eve.
He was Ruben LAAS, a German national who had lived in New Zealand the last few years.
“Police are preparing a full report for the coroner which will cover a number of issues including the use of the Wakapuaka sand flats for recreational activities like kite boarding, the suitability of equipment used in the conditions at the time, whether there are warnings supplied with such equipment and other factors that may have contributed to this tragedy.” Said Sergeant Shane Miles.
