AJ Hackett Bungy develops two new adventure products
Adventure pioneer AJ Hackett Bungy is developing two new adventure activities at its Kawarau Bungy Centre near Queenstown.
A new bungy trampoline and a zip ride are targeted at some of the approximately 350,000 visitors each year who visit the centre.
The Kawarau Bungy Trampoline is through to the final stages of resource consent approval and it is hoped it will be operating mid-way through the summer season. It will cater for up to four people on four individual static trampolines.
The zip ride proposal has the initial support of the Department of Conservation. A resource consent application will be lodged with Lakes Environmental tomorrow (Friday December 24) with the aim of launching the Kawarau Zipride in winter 2011.
The Kawarau Zipride comprises four 150m-long zip lines that will take up to eight people on a ride from the Kawarau Bungy Centre, parallel to the Kawarau River to a point on the southern bank. There they will be rotated 180 degrees to face uphill for the return ride to the launch point.
At speeds of up to 60kph, riders will experience a rush as they cruise down alongside the Kawarau River . The zip ride will appeal to people of all ages and is perfect for larger groups, conference and incentive groups and team building.
This multimillion dollar investment will enhance the experience of customers at the ‘World Home of Bungy’ and reinforce the site as a world-class fun and adventure destination.
“Our plan for a multi-activity environment at the Kawarau marks our return to the development and innovation of new adventure activities,” said Bungy New Zealand Group CEO Michelle Trapski.
“Understanding the dynamics and the needs of our customers is something we see as critical to our ongoing sustainability.
“As industry leaders we’re known to offer a diverse range of products, pushing the boundaries through innovation with a strong emphasis on fun, safety, reliability and excellence.
“We believe the time is right to launch two new products with wide appeal to the adventurous at heart.
In recent years Bungy New Zealand Ltd has developed visitor attraction products in addition to core Bungy products. These include the Secrets of Bungy Tour, Auckland Bridge Climb, wine tourism through The Winehouse & Kitchen and the Nevis Arc.
