Hamilton City Council has appointed Barry Harris as its new chief executive.
Mr Harris comes from the Fonterra senior management team and has previously been CEO at Environment Waikato and the Wellington Regional Council.
The appointment was made by all Councillors on Friday night with unanimous agreement. The decision will be formally ratified at a Council meeting this week.
Hamilton Mayor Julie Hardaker says Mr Harris came through the recruitment process against an extremely high quality field of candidates. There were 36 applicants for the job.
Ms Hardaker says the Council were particularly impressed with Mr Harris’ strong record of leading complex organisations and delivering on the expectations of communities and shareholders.
“We feel fortunate to have been able to attract such a high calibre chief executive and we are absolutely sure he is up the challenges of leading a large organisation and playing a pivotal role in providing for a growing city.”
