Body of teenager found in Wainuiomata
A post-mortem examination is being carried out this afternoon, following the discovery of a body in a creek, in Wainuiomata last night.
Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Steve Harwood of the Lower Hutt CIB says the body of a 17 year old male was found in a creek near Rata Street, Wainuiomata, around 8pm last night.
"The deceased was found by friends, after he failed to turn up for work yesterday. The group had attended a party in Wainuimata on Saturday night, and the deceased was last seen at around 4am yesterday morning."
He says a scene examination is being carried out at the moment, as well as a post-mortem examination.
"We're working through the deceased's last movements before his death and speaking to people who attended the party on Saturday night, but we're also keen to hear from anyone with any information."
He says the death is being treated as an unexplained death at this stage, pending completion of the scene examination and a post-mortem.
The name of the deceased will not be released until all next of kin have been advised.
