Hamilton City Safe cameras alert Police to attack on woman
Hamilton Police are heralding the value of the City Council's closed circuit television cameras after operators were able to alert officers to an attack on a woman in the CBD this morning.
Detective Sergeant Andy Bu Bear of the Hamilton CIB said CCTV operators contacted Police concerned about the wellbeing of a woman outside the entrance to an apartment block near the intersection of Victoria and Collingwood streets about 5am.
"Two men appear to have indecently assaulted the woman and officers arrived and took both into custody and initiated Victim Support and medical assistance for the woman.
"A scene examination is currently underway of a nearby car park and detectives will be analysing CCTV footage to establish just what has occurred, at this stage we have an allegation of an indecent assault."
Mr Bu Bear said this morning's incident spoke volumes of the benefits of having a system such as the Hamilton City Council's cameras that operate in the CBD.
