Mountain Bikers Encouraged To Attend $1.4m Gibbston River Trail Opening
The official launch of the $1.4M Gibbston River Trail on Saturday December 4, which will open up the 8.5km trail to
mountain bikers for the first time, will feature a family focused mountain biking event, sponsored by AJ Hackett Bungy
and the Winehouse.
AJ Hackett Bungy CEO Michelle Trapski says mountain bikers can ride from Peregrine Wines to the Kawarau Bungy Centre and
return, to mark the opening of the trail, at the same time entering a valuable prize draw.
"In recognition of the official opening AJ Hackett Bungy and the Winehouse have put together a Family Fun Pack prize
which includes Kawarau Bridge bungy jumps for two adults and two children, a $100 voucher for the Bungy Shop and lunch
for two adults and two children at the Winehouse, along with two bottles of local Freefall Pinot Noir and a bottle of
exclusive GRT 2009 Pinot Noir."
Ms Trapski says bikers wanting to enter the prize draw, ride to the Kawarau Bungy Centre car park, then down towards the
Kawarau Historic Bridge. Bikes will be left at the side entrance of the Centre where there will be a water station with
complimentary AJ Hackett Bungy branded water available. Raffle tickets for the prize draw can be collected at this
station.
The Fun Pack prize will be drawn at Peregrine Wines at approximately 1pm along with raffles for walkers completing the
2.7km loop around Peregrine. The raffles include Department of Conservation hut passes, a family pass for a Gibbston
Valley Wines cave tour and tasting, a bottle of 2009 Gibbston Valley Wines Pinot Noir and a unique bottle of GRT 2009
Pinot Noir -which is a blend of Gibbston grapes produced exclusively to raise funds for the Gibbston River Trail.
Gibbston Community Association Chairman Susan Stevens says planning is well advanced for the official opening on
December 4.
"We are expecting a large turnout of both bikers and walkers judging by the interest which is being generated in this
exciting new trail. Following the official opening walkers and bikers will complete the different sections to finish at
Peregrine Wines for a community picnic and concert."
"We are delighted to have the Rock Formation Charitable Trust and other local musicians on board providing a free
concert and we encourage people who do not want to walk or bike the trail to join us at Peregrine for what will be a
major celebration."
Refreshments will be available with proceeds donated to the Gibbston River Trail maintenance fund.
"This is a day we have been planning for six years," says Ms Stevens. "We want to pay tribute to all the people who have
supported this incredible project and made it possible for us to achieve our vision for a quality trail which will not
only benefit locals but undoubtedly become an important tourist amenity."
