Alfred Ngaro Humbled By Campaign Launch Turn-Out

Close to two hundred supporters and well wishers braved a cold winters evening and packed the Onehunga Library Cafe last Friday 6 July to celebrate the launch of Alfred Ngaro's campaign.

Alfred Ngaro, a Cook Island New Zealander on the Citizens and Ratepayers ticket is vying for the councillor position in the Maungakiekie-Tamaki ward in the local body elections scheduled for 9th October.

Popular Radio broadcaster and MC of the night, Robbie Rakete, welcomed the enthusiastic crowd of business people, sports celebrities such as Inga Tuigamala, politicians, media and community representatives who were in attendance.

Speakers included MP for Maungakiekie-Tamaki, Peseta Sam Lotu-Iiga, Deputy Mayor, David Hay and Mayor John Banks and others.

Guests were entertained throughout the evening by the soul-jazzy tunes of Natasha Urale-Baker accompanied by husband Fred on the saxophone. An auction and generous pledges from supporters raised substantial funds that will go towards campaign activities in the next few months.

Alfred said, "I am humbled by the overwhelming support for my candidacy and wish to thank you all for coming out tonight." He also acknowledged his family, friends and the hard work of his campaign team. "I am in this race to win this election. I have the skills and experience and can offer a fresh perspective to development issues and the importance of community partnerships and engagement when addressing local concerns "

He is committed to Progress and Prosperity of a world class city through-Strong Leadership with integrity, Community led approaches, Effective Transport Solutions, Protection and enhancement of the environment and facilitating an affordable region to live and work in.

Mr Ngaro is a familiar face to many as one of the staunch advocates and faces of the nation-wide "It's not ok" campaign against family violence.

He was recently awarded the Sir Peter Blake Emerging leaders Award in recognition of his extensive work with families and community development in the Tamaki area. He has also held governance roles in local, regional and national committees. Alfred is married to Mokauina Fuemana who is of American Samoa/Niue/Cook Islands descent. They have 4 children.
