Support for new Flat Bush park
Public feedback on plans for stage two of Flat Bush shows strong support for the proposed grid street pattern and the new Murphy’s Park.
Manukau City Council held five weeks of public feedback in April and May on draft plans for the second stage of the new town of Flat Bush.
The feedback is now being used to help develop a district plan change that would guide future development. The plan change is expected to be open for formal submissions in September and would then go through a hearings process.
Fifty three per cent of people who gave feedback said they fully supported the increase in open space that would include creating a new park around Murphy’s Bush. Another eight per cent gave qualified support.
The proposed grid street pattern was supported by the majority of people giving feedback.
Manukau City Council Project Leader Bruce Harland says it is encouraging to see that there is general support for the stage two proposals.
“We also have very useful feedback and comments to help improve upon the draft plan that the council developed. Getting input from people who already live in, or are thinking of living in the area is a vital step in planning for the future.”
Other feedback included concern about property lots being too small and narrow, support for wider streets and the proposed neighbourhood centres. People also want a variety of housing and good quality design, however there were mixed views about the level of council control over design outcomes of buildings.
Seventy one submissions were received on the draft Flat Bush stage two plans.
A summary of the feedback can be found on the stage two plan change page at www.manukau.govt.nz/flatbush.
