Road Fatality – Linwood Avenue, Christchurch

Road Fatality – Linwood Avenue, Christchurch

At approximately 5.05pm on Friday 21 May 2010 a vehicle travelling south- east along Linwood Avenue lost control in wet conditions.
The vehicle mounted the curb and tragically struck a mother and her two sons walking along the footpath.
As a result of the crash the four year old died at the scene. He has been named as Nayan Samuel WOODS.
His 6 year old brother Jacob suffered multiple fractures. He has been admitted to the Christchurch Hospital where he is described as being in a stable condition.
The mother suffered minor injuries.

The sole occupant of the vehicle, being the 17 year old male driver is assisting Police with their enquiries.
Detective Sergeant John Gallagher stated that charges will be laid against the driver at the completion of the investigation. At this stage it does not appear that alcohol is a factor.

This has had a devastating effect upon both families, none more so than the family of Nayan.
