Title: Police officer set to make full recovery
At 4.10am today a 28 year old, male Police Officer was shot several times outside a house in Buckingham Crescent, Papatoetoe.
"The incident that occurred today is highly complex; there are four different scenes within Buckingham Crescent and Allenby Road that specialist search teams and ESR scientists are working within," says Superintendent Mike Bush, District Commander for Counties Manukau Police.
"Three firearms have been found along with ammunition. We can confirm the first firearm located was a shot gun, the second a rifle and the third a high calibre type pistol. We are still talking to two men in relation to the incident. It is understood that there is a further two males outstanding, these males are thought not to be in the area and do not pose a threat to the neighbourhood."
The injured police officer suffered three gun shot wounds, one to the right leg which punctured his femoral artery causing him to lose a substantial amount of blood, one gun shot wound to the left leg and another to his elbow. He is expected to make a full recovery.
"Bravery of staff involved in this incident was outstanding. The right command decision was made. This was handled very professionally in an operational sense. All I can do is offer praise to those staff," says Mr Bush.
If members of the public have information about this incident police urge them to call immediately on 09 2950200. Alternatively if they wish to remain anonymous they can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
