Council Takes Ownership of Central City
Central city issues will now be handled by the full Council instead of the Hagley/Ferrymead Community Board, which previously held the delegations for issues in this area.
Mayor Bob Parker says the decision was made to strengthen the central city and ensure all Christchurch residents and businesses can own it.
"This in no way erodes the power of the Community Board in managing issues on behalf of communities in the Hagley/Ferrymead area.
“This Council values the role of its Community Board and in fact, has further included them in the decision making process by introducing a dedicated meeting once a month to consider community board issues,” he says.
The areas now delegated to the Council include the streets, parks and leases within the central city. For maps and further detail visit the Council website www.ccc.govt.nz
