Libraries prove a popular place to stay connected
Hutt City libraries have had a bumper year with a 14 percent increase in visitors over the last 12 months.
Libraries manager Sandra Mann says it’s thanks largely to Connect, which provides enhanced internet and computer access.
“We now have one person logging in every two minutes every day of the week.”
“Books will always be an important part of what we do. Adding great technology just adds more choices and helps connect
people to their city and beyond.”
Other organisations have caught on with the Inland Revenue Department hosting public workshops using the computers and
the IHC are encouraging their members to participate online with a group booking later this month.
“We’re fast becoming a diverse community space where you’ll find people seeking spaces to read, email, meet others or
just relax.”
For $2 an hour users can: surf the internet or send an email, listen to music, edit photos and watch videos, build a
website and create music, movies, posters, spreadsheets or a CV. Users can also search the library, check their card,
read library news and explore our picks of the web for free.
The Connect programme introduced 166 new PCs to Hutt City libraries in December last year, bringing residents cheaper
and greater quality access to digital services.
