Halswell Quarry Park Plan Finalised
The second review of the Halswell Quarry Park Management Plan has been confirmed at a Special Committee meeting held at
the Christchurch City Council today.
Mayor Bob Parker says after months of public submissions and deliberation, they now have a solid plan to continue
developing one of the city’s most treasured metropolitan parks.
A key change from the previous plan falls under a new policy that requires the preparation of landscape plans for the
Sister Cities gardens, in consultation with the Sister City Committees, to guide their future development.
Under the new policy, a list of criteria has been developed to ensure any structures will be integrated into the layout
of the gardens to complement the heritage and overall style of the park.
A panel of City Councillors heard oral submissions in May, and considered 182 written submissions before deliberating
and making changes to the draft management plan at a meeting on 28 October.
“It’s been a long road to get to the point where we are confident about the park’s future, but I believe we have
succeeded in reaching that milestone. We can now all look forward to continued development of our much loved Halswell
Quarry Park, which is used and enjoyed by people from across the city,” says Bob Parker.
The original 1998 Halswell Quarry Park Management Plan and the Council’s new park management plan, are available to view
